can a cop open your garage for the repo man in Wi?

so we had a recent repossession and the vehicle was in the garage. the repo man called the police and the police opened the garage and let the repo man take the vehicle. Without permission to enter property. The windows on the garage are all blacked and the cop said she could not see if the vehicle was in there so she had to open it.

In no state are the police permitted to enter a private residence without permission or a judge’s warrant. The only exception would be if they had reasonable cause to believe that somebody on the other side of the door was in immediate danger.

The police are not agents of the bank that extended you the loan. This is a civil matter, not a criminal one, so the police have no authority in the matter at all. My guess is that the repo man knows somebody on the police department, or perhaps the repossession company is made up of retired cops.

Actually, that exception applies to everyone except for those released on parole. If you are on parole your contact officer can search your home at any time as a condition of your parole, since you are technically still a prisoner.
