Why aren’t the San Francisco Giants getting any respect this season?
Every column I’ve read has the Giants finishing in 3rd or worst behind the Dodgers and Padres. That’s ludicrous. We have the best pitching staff in the NL West (Zito, Lowry, Cain, Morris, Sanchez) and a pretty good batting lineup. Not to mention Barry Bonds is due for a rebound season. Besides, the Dodgers pitching staff is overrated. Schmidt? He will get hurt. Penny inexplicably fell off the second half of last season. Lowe is ok but can be spotty. And Randy Wolf is decent but not a superstar. No one talks about how old the Dodgers batting lineup is either. Not to mention injury prone. Luis Gonzalez, Nomar and Jeff Kent are not exactly young either.
A lot of people thought the Giants would be decent last season with all the experience.It turned out they were just old, aside from the fairly young, and good starting rotation.
I’m a Giants fan, and would like to see another power bat in the lineup. One day Bonds WILL retire, and that’ll free up the money to find one, I hope. It makes me nervous every year that goes by that we let sluggers slide by in free agency. Although, I’ll admit we tried this year.
