With reference to the cardinal sins, are there degrees of acceptable pride?

I am an atheist. That said, I find the idea of cardinal sin fascinating. Personally, I see these acts as their own punishment, since each has detrimental personal and social effects.

I am particularly intrigued as to why I keep seeing cars with two bumper stickers – “Jesus is the only way” (or some variant thereof) and right above that “Proud mom of honor roll student”.

For Christians: are there degrees of pride, some of which are to be considered a sin and some of which are not?

For non-Christians (theists and atheists): what are your thoughts on pride? Is your reaction to pride positive or negative, do you see it as being a detrimental quality in a person?

p.s. I am not trolling; I am not interested in flame wars; I am not trying to infer anything. I am genuinely interested.

In the example you give, I’d simply say that there is a difference between pride and hubris. However, I don’t think there’s any reason to get bogged down in semantics. If you feel good about your accomplishments, that’s probably a good thing.
If those accomplishments make you feel superior to others, then it’s probably a bad thing (assuming that is condescending in nature).
I don’t remember all of the cardinal sins right now, but I’d guess they are all this way to an extent. Wrath is bad when expressed as rage, but can be empowering when coupled with indignation about an injustice.
